Kalkan is the jewel in the Lycian coast, attracting the smart set from Istanbul during the summer months. This picture postcard village is fast becoming Turkey 's premier sophisticated and sought after resort yet untouched by mass tourism.
Formerly a fishing village it retains its unique charm by the adherence to the strict building regulations and the friendly welcoming hospitality provided by the people of Kalkan. This is why visitors simply keep returning again and again.
Immense pride goes into the upkeep of the shops and houses strewn with colourful bougainvillea and with traditional Ottoman balconies overhanging the narrow cobbled streets winding their way down to the harbour.
The Village has a small beach and water taxis to take you to the various beach clubs scattered around the bay.
The village is sleepy during the day but gradually comes alive as day goes into night, with the chic boutique shops, local crafts, antiques, jewellery and carpet stores staying open until around midnight. Made to measure items of clothing, particularly linen clothing, can be bought for very reasonable prices. Silver jewellery is another area where you can have anything made to order to a high standard of workmanship.
Whatever you are looking for Kalkan and its surrounding areas is bound to provide it for you.

A multitude of roof top terrace restaurants provide a wonderful outdoor dining experience, especially at night. Cooling breezes, a view out to a sparkling sea and a midnight sky strewn with twinkling stars provide the backdrop. It is said there are more restaurants here per capita than any other town along this coastline. Kalkan cuisine is excellent, ranging from simple traditional to stylish and innovative suiting all pockets and tastes.
After dinner relax at a traditional Ottoman cafe lounging on deep filled cushions strewn on a carpet laid floor with a Turkish coffee or Raki.
For an evening with a difference and a little more romantic, moonlight cruises with onboard dining and midnight swimming can easily be arranged.
If music is what you are after, live groups can be found at several of the restaurants, providing blues and jazz, as well as Turkish musicians for a more traditional flavour. In addition, for those that are looking for a little more by the way of nightlife, there are several bars down by the harbour with small dance floors, staying open until the small hours of the morning.
